Using Social Proof for Florida Social Media Marketing

Florida social media marketing is incredibly powerful – if you remember to keep the ‘social’ in social media.

That doesn’t just mean posting great content, communicating with your followers, and the like. It also means using something very powerful to increase the effectiveness of your message.

That something is called social proof.

What Is Social Proof?

Social proof, simply put, means using someone’s words and opinion of a brand to influence another person.

Think of trying to find a good restaurant. If you ask a trusted friend for a recommendation, you’re far more likely to go wherever they recommend. Now imagine if that restaurant had a written recommendation from that friend that they then shared on their Facebook page.

That’s using social proof.

Brands can do the same by using the words their customers say about them to influence other potential customers. This means using testimonials, customer reviews, user-submitted content, and the results of the customer using your product or service.

Why Does Social Proof Work So Well?

Social proof works extremely well. In fact, it’s one of the most important factors behind why people buy – or do – anything.

Social proof works because people, at their core, are social animals. We place a tremendous amount of importance on what other people think and say and do. The more people who believe something, the more likely we are to believe it. The same goes for buying a product. The more people who say they like a product, the more likely we are to like it.

Businesses know this. That’s why they spend a lot of time collecting reviews, and creating testimonials, and getting likes, shares, and comments on their social media platforms. All of these are forms of social proof.

Making use of social proof means focusing on soliciting:

  • Shares/retweets
  • Comments
  • Testimonials
  • Reviews

The more you get, the better. This doesn’t just apply to Facebook, but also applies to Yelp, Google reviews, and other places where people go when it comes to finding products and services.

Social proof is powerful. You think your business is awesome. You just need to get others to say it’s awesome, too.
