If you have a business and are marketing it online, have you optimized your website and business for local search?

If not, you should. 88 percent of all those who search on mobile devices for a particular business go to or call that business within a day. More people are looking up local businesses online and reading reviews to find out where they want to go and which businesses they want to patronize.

Local Search Optimization is key. Making your website visible to people in your local area is not only important, but also easier than you think.

The More Positive Reviews, the Better

One important factor in local search is the review.

We’ve all read good reviews and bad ones – and the bad ones probably stand out a little more. Reviews matter because humans like to take into consideration the opinions of others.

Google and other search engines take into consideration reviews as well. So, it is in your interest to try and get as many positive reviews as you can. Did you know that a restaurant with a 3.5-star rating on Yelp, a local business directory, has a 63 percent greater chance of being full than those with a 3.0-star rating? It’s true – because reviews matter.

You can ask your customers for reviews, or offer discounts or entries into prize drawings in exchange for a review. But chances are, if you deliver great service, you’ll get good reviews anyway.

Make Sure You Are On Local Directories

There are also a few places you should have a profile.

One is Google Places. Create a Google+ business page and make sure your information in the Google Local section is complete. That will help you show up in search results when people look for your particular type of business, like below:

Have your business in as many local directories as possible to help people – and Google – find you and review you.

You can also use longer keywords, like “seafood restaurant in Naples, Florida”, on your website to further help local search, because people put locations in what they type into Google. Having the right keywords on your site can go a long way to helping your local search optimization.
