08 Jul Social Media and Southwest Florida Real Estate Professionals: Are you in or are you out?
Just read an article on rismedia.com about social media. I was shocked to learn that according to a National Association of REALTORS® survey, 90% of real estate professionals do not blog! That is scary.
Scary because as traditional forms of communication continue to achieve less ROI, and social media continues to grow as a lead-generating communication and we can all agree it is no longer seen as just a trend for young people. With 750 million users on Facebook alone, will real estate professionals in Southwest Florida, specifically Naples, Bonita Springs and Estero get in front of the 8-ball or stay behind it.
I consult many real estate professionals, as well as folks working in related industries, here in Collier and Lee Counties, and the biggest reason I hear for not utilizing social media is this: ” My clients are 50+ and not using social media.” Wanna bet??? According to Pew Research’s report release in just May 2011, the 50+ age group is the fastest growing user group across all social networks. How about that?
Other reasons may be that real estate professionals are afraid of the learning curve. While it is a realistic excuse, you can only use it for about 2 seconds. There are so many free resources available to learn and it isn’t rocket science.
Or, maybe it’s just a time thing – you don’t have the time. Ok, then hire someone who understands the market and your goals. While you shouldn’t have someone post for you 100% of the time, you can have a professional help pick up the slack.
What is your reason for not utilizing social media? If you’re not, what is your strategy for becoming and staying relevant to the lifestyle of the most influential group of buyers and sellers?
